IN ANAHEIM, CORREA ANNOUNCES OVER $2 MILLION TO SUPPORT LOCAL FOOD BUSINESSES, BRIDGE CONNECTING ANAHEIM AND ORANGE

Federal Tax Dollars Return To Anaheim As Part Of Nearly $15 Million Correa Secured For Community Projects In The FY’24 Omnibus Package

ANAHEIM, Calif.  Last week, Representative Lou Correa (CA-46) presented federal funds for two community projects: $500,000 to support local food businesses and their workforce and over $1.5 million for the design and construction of a new pedestrian and bicycle bridge over the Santa Ana River.

Correa was joined by Anaheim Mayor Ashleigh Aitken and Anaheim City Manager James Vanderpool on Tuesday to present $500,000 in federal tax dollars to Store One, a public-private partnership through the City of Anaheim to support food business startups and build the local food business workforce. Anticipating a launch date in 2026, Store One will also provide a local gathering place that amplifies community through food.

Small businesses are the backbone of our economy, and entrepreneurship is a key to the American Dream,” Correa said. Federal investments like this allow businesses across Orange County to thrive while training and developing our own local workforce. I look forward to seeing businesses use this space to connect with our community and take their entrepreneurial ideas from this kitchen to our plates.”

Through this federal funding, Store One will create a center for entrepreneurship and workforce training, offering business planning and development services to local micro food-related business owners and job training for their workforce. Occupying the historic location of the first Northgate Gonzalez Market in Anaheim, this location will support budding food-related startups and connect them to the community they serve.

“The City is proud to work alongside Congressman Correa to invest in this important hub for Anaheim’s community of entrepreneurs,” Aitken said. “From our small business owners to food industry workers, Store One will be an important tool for local startups to build their ideas into successful ventures rooted in our local community.”

On Wednesday, Correa joined Anaheim Mayor Ashleigh AitkenCity of Anaheim Council Members, and other local electeds on Wednesday to present over $1,666,279 million in federal funding to complete the final design and construction of a new pedestrian and bicycle bridge over the Santa Ana River as part of the OC River Walk project.

“This bridge will link our central cities and regional neighborhoods to the emerging recreation projects we’re building, like the OC River Walk, the Santa Ana River parks, and the OCVibe,” Correa said. “As families, pedestrians, and cyclists discover the Santa Ana Trail and the OC River Walk, this bridge will connect our residents to the emerging recreational opportunities our cities have to offer.”

With this funding, OC River Walk will promote a safer, accessible pathway for pedestrians and cyclists traveling between Anaheim and Orange, and make the regional Santa Ana River Trail more accessible to cyclists. This bridge is a part of the OC River Walk project, which will connect communities throughout the region through the Santa Ana River Corridor and transform the Santa Ana River into a regional destination for recreation.

“The OC River Walk project will revitalize recreation and relaxation for our neighborhoods—and this bridge will connect our greater Orange County community to this and all the other amazing attractions Anaheim has to offer,” Aitken said. “This project helps us take a step towards connecting our cities in the name of a stronger, more prosperous Orange County.”

The $2,166,279 in federal funding is part of the nearly $15 million that Rep. Correa secured for community projects throughout California’s 46th congressional district in the Fiscal Year 2024 (FY24) omnibus appropriations bill, which President Joe Biden signed into law earlier this year. Rep. Correa worked in lockstep with community leaders to identify priorities for CA-46 constituents, and fought for them during the annual funding process.
